Verona

Verona will continue their search for a win to lift them out of the relegation zones when they host AS Roma on Monday.

I Gialloblu have made a poor start to the season having picked up one win, two draws and eight losses to sit in 19th place in the Italian Serie A table.

Their last outing ended in a 2-1 loss to Sassuolo. Despite taking the lead in the fifth minute through Federico Ceccherini, Verona were unable to hold on to their lead for long as Armand Lauriente levelled up the tie before halftime. The second half started with less action until Davide Frattesi sealed the win for Sassuolo in the 75th minute.

The loss to Sassuolo extended Verona’s run of games without a win to six. The home side have also failed to pick up any points in any of those games with all of them being defeats.

Salvatore Bocchetti will be taking charge of his third game since taking over the reins following the sacking of Gabriele Cioffi, and the relatively new manager will be keen to finally get his hands on a win to lift the club out of the relegation zones with only three points separating them from Leece in 17th place.

However, I Gialloblu face a daunting task as they come up against AS Roma who have their eyes set on breaking into the top four. Albeit, with two wins, one draw and two defeats, Verona come into this encounter packed full of experience on how to face Jose Mourinho’s side.

Possible Verona starting line-up

Lorenzo Montipo; Isak Hien, Koray Gunter, Federico Federico Ceccherini; Fabio Depaoli, Adrien Tameze, Simone Verdi, Miguel Veloso, Marco Davide Faraoni; Yayah Kallon, Thomas Henry.

Injured: Ivan Ilić, Darko Lazovic, Ajdin Hrustic, Kevin Lasagna, Diego Coppola.

AS Roma

AS Roma, on the other hand, will be on the hunt for a quick bounce back from their recent defeat to Napoli last weekend.

The Giallorossi saw their resilient showing against the league leaders broken when Victor Osimhen finally broke the deadlock in the 80th minute.

Jose Mourinho’s men, however, come into this game off the back of a 1-2 win over HJK in the Europa League last Thursday. Tammy Abraham opened the scoring for the away side just before the international end of the first half, but HJK returned to equalise the nine minutes upon resumption. AS Roma were spared a disappointing night in Finland when Arthur Hoskonen turned the ball into his own net to hand Jose Mourinho’s side all three points to send them into second place in Group C.

The Portuguese coach will now look to see his side end the month of October in style when they visit the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi to take on Verona.

However, AS Roma failed to beat Verona over both legs last season, with a loss at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi and a draw at the Stadio Olimpico. But with the home side undergoing a transitional phase this season, Jose Mourinho will fancy his team’s chances of getting all three points against Salvatore Bocchetti’s side.

Possible AS Roma starting line-up

Rui Patricio; Gianluca Mancini, Chris Smalling, Roger Ibanez; Nicola Zalewski, Bryan Cristante, Mady Camara, Leonardo Spinazzola; Nicolo Zaniolo, Lorenzo Pellegrini, Tammy Abraham.

Injured: Georginio Wijnaldum, Zeki Celik, Paulo Dybala, Nemanja Matic

Doubtful: None
