RB Leipzig

RB Leipzig will look to boost their chances of qualifying for the knockout round of the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League when they welcome Real Madrid to Red Bull Arena on Tuesday.

After suffering two defeats in their opening two UCL games, the Bundesliga side rallied to put themselves back into the frame for qualification with two consecutive wins against Celtic.

And so they come into this round sitting third in Group F, one point ahead of Shakhtar Donetsk in third. They can secure passage into the next round if they win this game and Celtic defeat Shakhtar in the other Group F fixture.

Having come from three goals down to draw 3-3 with Augsburg last time out and extending their unbeaten run in all competitions to seven games (W5, D2), they will come into this game with the belief that they can get a good result. Another morale booster will be their form at home.

The Red Bulls have won their last five home games in all competitions, scoring 3+ goals on each occasion while the sad passing of Red Bull co-founder Dietrich Mateschitz at the weekend serves as further inspiration to rise to the occasion.

Possible RB Leipzig starting line-up

Janis Blaswich; Mohamed Simakan, Willi Orban, Abdou Diallo; Kevin Kampl, Xaver Schlager, Emil Forsberg, Dominik Szoboszlai, Christopher Nkunku; Yussuf Poulsen, Andre Silva.

Injured: Timo Werner, Lukas Klostermann, Konrad Laimer, Peter Gulasci

Real Madrid

Real Madrid continued their impressive start to the season over the weekend when they beat Sevilla 3-1 at home.

Goals from Luka Modrić, Lucas Vazquez and Federico Valverde gave a second-string Real Madrid side all three points and kept them top of the La Liga table ahead of fierce rivals Barcelona.

The result also extended Los Blancos’ unbeaten run in all competitions to 20 games (W16, D4) and also made it the third-consecutive game they were scoring three goals.

Indeed, Carlo Ancelotti’s men are arguably the most in-form team in all of Europe and will travel to Germany full of confidence. They have already booked their place beyond the group stage for a 26th consecutive season, having won three (D1) of the first four games. They will be keen to do so as group winners, and so will want to win this game to guarantee that.

Given that they are unbeaten across their last five European ties away to German opposition (W3, D2), they will fancy their chances of another excellent result in Germany.

Possible RB Leipzig starting line-up

Thibaut Courtois; Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, David Alaba, Ferland Mendy; Aurelien Tchoumeni, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Federico Valverde, Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo.
