England picked up a historic 2-0 win against Germany to progress to the last eight of Euro 2020. Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane popped up with goals as the Three Lions won their first game against Germans since 1966. Here are the player ratings.
England
Jordan Pickford – 9
The Everton goalkeeper was outstanding as he made two top-class saves against Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.
Harry Maguire – 8
Maguire’s presence in three-man defence gave him the freedom to carry the ball forward at ease. It was an impressive display from the Manchester United centre-back.
John Stones – 8
German attackers found it difficult to get past the Manchester City defender. Stones’ robust presence completely outplayed warner.
Kyle Walker – 8
As solid as his Man City teammate John Stones and hardly made any mistake in the defence.
Kieran Trippier – 7
Trippier’s presence was hardly felt, but he would be happy to see his side get over the line.
Luke Shaw – 9
Man of the match, in my opinion. Provided the assist to Sterling’s opening goal and won the ball soon after, which lead to England’s second goal.
Kalvin Phillips – 8
Looked shaky in the opening minutes but returned to his best as the game progressed. Phillips is proving to be a revelation for Southgate’s side.
Declan Rice – 9
Rice put on a tremendous display, racking up some impressive numbers as the pivot. Controlling tempo at his own, hardly making any misplaced passes, Rice ran the show in the midfield.
Raheem Sterling – 9
The Manchester City attacker continues to be one of the best players of Euro 2020 as he scored his third goal of the campaign.
Harry Kane – 9
Stood up when his team needed the most. The Three Lions scored the decisive goal to end the drought.
Bukayo Saka – 7
Saka once again looked impressive and imposed a big threat to the Germans with his pace and dribbling.
Substitutes
Jack Grealish – 8
Grealish made an immediate impact by setting up the goal for Harry Kane.

Germany
Manuel Neuer – 6
He made a fine save against Sterling and was quick with distribution but conceded two goals due to a lack of help from the defence.
Mats Hummels – 6
Hummels hardly made his presence felt in the defence, and he couldn’t help but watch Sterling’s goal.
Antonio Rudiger – 6
Looked good for quite a while, but he must be regretting the goal the German defence conceded in the final quarter to allow England to gain more momentum.
Matthias Ginter – 5
Ginter couldn’t replicate the same form he had in the previous games.
Robin Gosens – 6
Not the same Gosens we witnessed during Germany’s thrashing of Portugal in the group stage. He was a lot quiet today.
Joshua Kimmich – 6
He provided the support by racking up near-perfect long balls but wasn’t allowed enough freedom by Three Lions.
Toni Kroos – 7
The hardworking Toni Kroos tried his best but lacked support from his teammates. He should have taken the freekick instead of handing it to Thomas Muller.
Thomas Muller – 4
Thomas Muller’s return to the nation has never turned out to be remarkable. And he couldn’t have asked for a horrible performance today, missing one of the easiest chances, when he had enough time and only Pickford in front of him.
Kai Havertz – 7
Havertz was the best player of the entire German’s attack. Provided as many key passes – including the one for Muller – and had a powerful shot at the goal, but to little or no help.
Timo Werner – 5
Werner’s chip in the shoulder hasn’t gone down even with the national team. The Chelsea forward should have scored at least two goals.
