Brazil

Brazil’s unbeaten record in Qatar came to an end on Friday in their final group game, when they were narrowly beaten by Cameroon.

Having already sealed a place in the knockout round thanks to two wins against Serbia and Switzerland in their opening two games, Tite’s men were in the comfort zone against Cameroon after allowing the coach the opportunity to shuffle his powerful squad.

Although they lost the game, Tite will be satisfied with his side’s outing and will now hope that his well-rested stars can seal a knockout win against a well-motivated South Korea side who are looking to cause one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history.

Brazil come into this tie as favourites but will know they cannot be cocky or over-confident going into this tie. In Russia 2018, Tite’s men were tournament favourites, as they are this year, but crashed out at the quarter-final stage following a 2-1 defeat to Belgium.

Possible Brazil starting line-up

Alisson Becker; Eder Militao, Thiago Silva, Marquinhos, Alex Sandro; Fred, Casemiro, Lucas Paqueta; Raphinha, Richarlison, Vinicius Junior.

Injured: Alex Telles, Danilo, Alex Sandro, Neymar

South Korea

After two disappointing results in the opening two games of the group stage, South Korea left it late to seal their place in the knockout stage of the World Cup for the third time in their history.

The Asian side began their tournament with a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Uruguay, a game they very well could have won had they taken their chances. They followed that up with a narrow 3-2 loss to Ghana, leaving them on the edge of elimination in the group stage.

Knowing they had to win to have any chance of securing qualification heading into the last group game, South Korea left it late against Portugal in the last game, with a 90th-minute goal by Hwang Hee-chan enough to seal a 2-1 win over Portugal and send them through ahead of Uruguay.

They will hope they can produce another bold display they had against Portugal on Friday when they meet a Brazil side that have defeated them each time they have met in the past.

Led by their talisman Son Heung-min, Paulo Bento’s side will lack an overall class edge against Brazil, but will certainly match them for commitment and intensity.

Possible South Korea starting line-up

Seung-Gyu Kim, Moon-hwan Kim, Min-Jae Kim, Young-Gwon Kim, Jin-Su Kim, In-beom Hwang, Woo-Young Jung, Chang-Hoon Kwon, Woo-yeong Jeong, Heung-Min Son, Gue-sung Cho.

Injured: None
