Former Spain striker David Villa has backed Spain to win the World Cup while praising La Roja boss Luis Enrique for bringing a “wonderful atmosphere’’ to the Spain camp.

Villa admits he is a great admirer of Luis Enrique’s man-management skills and has credited him for bringing a positive mood to the dressing room.

The striker was part of the Spanish side that dominated world football between 2008 and 2012 and won the World Cup with Spain in South Africa in 2010. Speaking about the current Spanish squad, the former Barcelona striker declared they are capable of winning the World Cup.

“I think Luis Enrique is doing a good job not only in the World Cup,” Villa said in an exclusive sit down with GOAL.

“He is the reason for the wonderful atmosphere surrounding the Spanish national team. He has a distinguished group of players who perform at great levels.”

“They played well against Costa Rica, scored a lot of goals and dealt well with Germany, and I believe the team can win the World Cup.”

Villa also listed Argentina amongst the favourites to win the World Cup after Lionel Messi’s side recovered from their shock 2-1 loss to Saudi Arabia in their opening game to win their group and progress to the next round.

“They lost the first match, but they also have a chance to win the World Cup, so I put them among the favourites,” Villa added.

Despite losing 2-1 to Japan in their last group game of the tournament, Spain have progressed to the knockout round where they will face Morocco
