Atalanta 2-2 Juventus: Ronaldo double rescued Juve

Atalanta 2-2 Juventus Ronaldo double rescued Juve

Cristiano Ronaldo scored two goals from penalties as Juventus held Atalanta for a 2-2 draw at Allianz Stadium at Turin.

Atalanta, who currently hold third place in Serie A table, controlled a significant part of the game and went ahead twice, through Duvan Zapata and Ruslan Malinovskiy goals.

With these two goals scored today, Ronaldo took his tally to 28 goals from 32 Juventus matches in Serie A this season. But he has played 28 of them.

Atalanta have scored 19 more goals than any other side in Serie A this season, and twice appeared to move up to the second spot in the Serie A table with a 10th straight win.

Alejandro Gomez’s quick turn and pass inside the penalty area, released Zapata to open the scoring – with Colombia forward fending off Matthijs de Ligt and then sliding his shot past Juve goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.

Marten de Roon’s handball inside the box presented Cristiano Ronaldo with his first goal of the match from the penalty spot, but Malinovskiy’s low shot provided Gian Piero Gasperini’s side to regain the initiative.

Ronaldo, who was quiet throughout, converted his second penalty of the night after another handball – this time from Luis Muriel of a Gonzalo Higuain through – to rescue a point for Maurizio Sarri’s side.

Second-placed Lazio had earlier lost to Sassuolo 2-1 at home. This was Lazio’s third consecutive loss, and Juventus managed to get a lead of eight points lead at the end of matchday 32.

But Second-placed Lazio and third-placed Atalanta have a difference of 1 point. Ronaldo’s equalizer prevented Atalanta from securing the second spot today. With six matchdays still to be played, more dramas are in store.
