Chelsea are interested in signing the Atalanta left back Robin Gosens.

The 25-year-old has done well in Serie A and the Blues are looking at him as an upgrade on Palmieri and Alonso.

Both defenders have been inconsistent at the back for Chelsea and they need to find a better starter before next season starts.

Lampard needs to improve his back four in order to secure challenge the likes of Manchester City next season.

Atalanta value the player highly and they won’t let him leave easily. The Italian club turned down a €25m offer for the player in January and the likes of Chelsea will have to come up with a better offer for Gosens.

The German defender might be keen on a move to the Premier League as it would be a step up for him. However, his valuation could prove tricky for his suitors.

The likes of Inter Milan and Lyon are keen on the player as well and Chelsea must look to make their move soon. They cannot afford to be drawn into a bidding war for the player.

Chelsea need to strengthen other areas of their squad as well and they won’t want to overpay for a left back.

Gosens seems like an ideal fit on paper but the deal must make sense financially.

He is still unproven at the highest level and Atalanta must keep their demands reasonable or the Blues will have to move on to other targets.
