Frenkie de Jong creates an eye-catching stats during Barcelona’s win over Real Betis

Frenkie de Jong-Barcelona

The Dutch midfielder put on an impeccable display in the thrilling win over Betis.

Barcelona completed an incredible turnaround in a thrilling 3-2 win against Real Betis, with Lionel Messi and Francisco Trincao being the scorers.

Despite starting on the bench, Frenkie de Jong was called into action early on in the game to replace injured Ronaldo Araujo. When everybody thought Samuel Umtiti would be the ideal substitute for Araujo, Ronald Koeman came up with a surprise by deploying his compatriot De Jong in the defence.

Nonetheless, the former Ajax star was immaculate in his display as he garnered an impressive stat of 100% pass completion.

The 23-year-old has been a key cog to Barca’s midfield of late despite some early criticism, pointing that he hasn’t found his best form at the Camp Nou since moving from Amsterdam.

Frenkie de Jong, who entered the pitch from the bench yesterday as he replaced the injured Araújo in the 12th minute, successfully completed 100% of his 81 passes.
100% - @FCBarcelona's Frenkie de Jong completed all 81 of his passes against Real Betis, the most by a sub with a 100% passing accuracy in a @LaLigaEN game since at least 2005/06. Calmness.

De Jong has been mainly deployed as one of the two double pivots in the midfield under Koeman but with the licence to join the attack as long as he can. Perhaps, it has brought his goal-scoring knack to the limelight, something which people weren’t used to during his time at Ajax. De Jong has accumulated a total of six goals and four assists in all competitions this season.

Barca’s resurgence under Koeman has been evident, negating a tricky start to this season, as they are currently second in the La Liga table behind Atletico Madrid. They will face Sevilla in the Copa del Rey semi-finals on Wednesday.
