The French striker is set to pen a one-year contract extension with Real Madrid.

Real Madrid are reportedly set to reward a one-year contract extension for star striker Karim Benzema, which will keep him at the club until 2023.

According to famed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Benzema, whose current deal runs until 2022, will extend his stay for one more year and the Spanish capital club considers him untouchable.

Another report also suggests that the French striker can opt to leave Madrid before 2023 if he thinks he is less impactful to the squad.

Benzema has been the only saving grace in an ever-changing Madrid’s attack over the last few seasons, racking up some stellar numbers.

The 33-year-old was instrumental behind Los Blancos winning the La Liga title in the 2019/20 season while helping them finish as runners up the following season.

His impressive club form also led to his first international call up for the Euro 2020 after a long hiatus.

Benzema successfully carried his club form to the national team, racking up 4 goals in 4 matches of the European Championship despite Les Bleus falling short in the round-of-16.

It is no brainer for Madrid to extend Benzema’s contract considering his impact in an otherwise lacklustre attacking unit.

With big names missing in the attack, the former Lyon star’s responsibility will be even higher going into the next season.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure coincided with Madrid’s decline over the last few years; however, the best thing that happened was Benzema’s sheer quality coming into the light, which had been previously overshadowed by the Portuguese star’s presence.
