Real Madrid Update: Zidane on Jovic debut; Odegaard transfer request

Zidane on Jovic debut

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has given his verdict on Luka Jovic’s impressive debut for Eintracht Frankfurt.

The striker joined the German club on loan earlier this month and he scored a brace in his first game back at the club.

The striker’s performance at the German club has raised questions as to whether Zidane failed to get the best out of him just like he did with Achraf Hakimi and Sergio Reguilon.

Hakimi joined Inter Milan at the start of the season and Reguilon ended up joining Tottenham. Both players have done well for their respective clubs and one has to wonder whether Real Madrid should have been patient with them.

Speaking to the media the Real Madrid manager explained that he is happy with Jovic’s form and the striker still has a future and the Spanish club.

However, the manager is not to blame for the failings of the aforementioned players. According to Zidane, the players struggled to deal with the competition for places at Real Madrid and they are now thriving at clubs where there is less pressure.

He said: “I am happy and I like it. I wish him and everyone else the best. Madrid is difficult, I’ve experienced it as a player, and what Luka has done is go and play. I think it has been a good option to buy Luka and I am happy for him, and [I hope] for him to do the same one day in Madrid. But inside and outside [the club] it’s different. He has a future, and he can show it at Madrid and it’s the same for everyone. Here there is always a very strong competition, but the coach is not to blame.”

Odegaard transfer request

Meanwhile midfielder Martin Odegaard has now handed in a transfer request and he wants to leave the club this season.

The Norwegian midfielder has not played a single minute in any of the club’s last 10 matches across all competitions and he wants to leave in search of regular first-team football.

The highly talented midfielder seems to have fallen out with Zidane and it will be interesting to see where he ends up this month.

Social media has been relentlessly buzzing on Real Madrid transfer decisions , with some people opposing Zidane’s decision and some favouring those transfers.
