Lyon 2-3 Lille: Burak Yilmaz inspires Lille to an impressive comeback win against Lyon

Burak Yilmaz-Lille

Lille reclaimed the top spot after coming from behind to beat Lyon, with Yilmaz starring with a brace.

Lille pulled off an incredible turnaround after beating Lyon 3-2, and the victory has put them back at the top of the Ligue 1 table.

Lyon were coming off a disappointing defeat to Monaco in the French cup quarter-finals but wanted to gain back the momentum against the title contenders Lille.

On the other hand, Lille had the task of keeping up with PSG and their win against Les Parisiens weeks ago suggested they can upset Lyon.

However, the visitors endured a shocking first half as Slimani gave Les Gones an early lead and centre-back Fonte’s own goal added to their misery.

Burak YilmazLille managed to half the deficit in the added minutes of the first half through Burak Yilmaz, and the goal also helped them gain a tremendous amount of confidence ahead of the second half.

The visitors dominated the second period, and the equaliser came in around the hour mark, with young Canadian striker John David finding the back of the nets.

Yilmaz completed his brace in the dying end, thus producing a big turn around against Les Gones.

Once again, the Turkish striker continues to defy his age, and his tally has moved to 12 goals and five assists in Ligue 1 this season.

Lille regained the top spot after the win, and now the title race between them and PSG will be an exciting watch.

On the other hand, Lyon could have closed the gap with third-place Monaco if they had won today’s encounter.
