Manchester City recently appealed in CAS (The Court of Arbitration for Sport) against their ban from UEFA. They have been banned from the Champions League for two years following financial fair play discrepancies.
It will be interesting to see if CAS decide to overturn the ban or enforce it.
As per reports, the Premier League giants will have to wait until July to find out their fate.
Manchester City’s lawyers argued against the ban and the €30million fine over the last three days, and now it is up to the panel to decide on the punishment or acquittal.
A two-year ban from the Champions League would be disastrous for a club of City’s ambitions. They will miss out on several top talents, and they could lose their key players as well.
No top player will want to spend two years without Champions League football during the peak period of their careers.
It will be interesting to see how City cope with the ban if CAS enforces it.
After the hearing ended, a CAS spokesman released a statement outlining when a verdict on the appeal will be made: “At the end of the hearing, both parties expressed their satisfaction with respect to the conduct of the procedure.
“The panel of arbitrators in charge of the matter, composed of Mr Rui Botica Santos (Portugal), president, Prof. Ulrich Haas (Germany) and Mr Andrew McDougall QC (France), will start its deliberations and prepare the Arbitral Award containing their decision.
“The decision is expected to be issued during the first half of July 2020.”
