Ronaldo signing will be worse than Aubameyang says Arsenal title winner Perry Groves

Former Arsenal player and title winner Perry Groves has asked popular TV presenter Piers Morgan to stop trying to get Mikel Arteta’s side to sign Cristiano Ronaldo.

Morgan, whose interview with Ronaldo has sent shockwaves through the football world, is an Arsenal fan, and has repeatedly asked his club to sign the Manchester United star.

The Portugal international has somewhat become available for transfer after criticising his club, former players and even head coach Erik Ten Hag in the interview with Piers Morgan.

Speaking to talkSPORT on Monday, Morgan said that he thinks the 37-year-old would be a perfect signing for his club Arsenal.

However, the suggestion has not gone down well with many Arsenal fans, not least former player and title winner Groves, who thinks that it would be many, many times worse than when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was at the Emirates club.

The Gabon international left Arsenal in January under acrimonious circumstances following a catalogue of disciplinary issues that were not tolerated by manager Mikel Arteta.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Groves said: “Piers Morgan saying Arsenal should be in for him… Piers, please. I don’t know if you’ve done your coaching badges or how qualified you are.

“It’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. Ronaldo is Aubameyang times 20.

“The philosophy Mikel Arteta has put into these players is no egos, humbleness. You all work hard for the team. It’s about the team, the non-negotiables. Then you go and put the biggest ego on the planet and disrupt all that.”

Meanwhile, not many clubs are interested in signing Ronaldo this January as his wage demands and age pose a limitation to any potential suitors. Chelsea has been linked with his services, but boss Graham Potter is said to not be keen, while a return to Sporting Lisbon could be a realistic move.
