Bologna

Bologna will look to get back to winning ways when they host Atalanta on Monday.

The hosts made a losing return to the league as AS Roma narrowly beat them in midweek. In a controversial game at the Stadio Olimpico, a sixth-minute penalty from Lorenzo Pellegrini gave Jose Mourinho’s men the lead. At the same time, a last-ditch goal-line clearance from Tammy Abraham ensured that Roma went home with all three points.

Bologna boss Thiago Motta was left combing over the perceived injustices after the defeat, with the exasperated coach suggesting that players are fooling officials too often after the penalty awarded to Roma in the game.

But with Bologna level or on higher points than at this stage of three of their last four seasons, there is little to worry about as a top-half finish is still achievable.

With more investment coming in from the addition of new club partners over the winter, there could be some money to spend this January. But the immediate goal of Motta and his boys will be to win this game and end a run of five games without a win over Atalanta.

Possible Bologna starting line-up

Lukasz Skorupski, Stefan Posch, Jhon Lucumí, Adama Soumaoro, Charalambos Lykogiannis, Lewis Ferguson, Gary Medel, Riccardo Orsolini, Nicolas Dominguez, Roberto Soriano, Marko Arnautovic

Injured: Mussa Barrow, Joshua Zirkzee

Doubtful: Lorenzo De Silvestri, Kevin Bonifazi

Suspended: None

Atalanta

For Atalanta, this game will be about getting back to winning and stopping a terrible run of form that is threatening to undo their fine start to the season.

The Bergamo-based club started the season in solid shape and, at some point, were alongside Napoli, the top-two team in Italy.

But a poor run of results that has seen them win just six games has thrown them outside of the title race and five points behind Inter Milan, who currently occupy the last Champions League spot.

La Dea come into this tie sitting in seventh position and on a run of four games without a win. Their last outing was a 2-2 draw with Spezia, which ended a run of three straight losses just before the World Cup break.

With the halfway point of the season yet to be reached, Gian Piero Gasperini’s men can still redeem their season. But to do that, they will have to sort out their defending, which has kept one clean sheet in eight games and conceded two goals in each of their last four games.

Luckily for the visitors, only Napoli had picked up more away points than their 17 ahead of this round. Their away league record this season is identical to their impressive showing across the last eight away H2Hs (W5, D2, L1).

Possible Atalanta starting line-up

Marco Sportiello, Rafael Toloi, Jose Luis Palomino, Giorgio Scalvini, Joakim Maehle, Marten De Roon, Ederson José, Matteo Ruggeri, Ademola Lookman, Teun Koopmeiners, Duván Zapata.

Injured: Juan Musso

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None
