Verona

Hellas Verona will look to get back to winning ways when they welcome Genoa to Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi on Monday night.

Despite suffering the disappointment of missing from the penalty spot last time out in a 1-1 vs Empoli, the hosts remain confident of notching a third straight top-half finish in Serie A (SA) since gaining promotion in 2019.

They come into this fixture sitting in tenth position, a distant 20 points ahead of the relegation zone. They are favourites for a victory here, which would mark their fourth win in five outings at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi.

Igor Tudor’s men have a good home record this season, taking 62% of their current points total at home. They will fancy their chances of getting a good result against the relegation-threatened rivals.

Possible Verona starting line-up

Lorenzo Montipo, Federico Ceccherini, Koray Gunter, Besko Sutalo; Davide Faraoni, Adrien Tameze, Ivan Ilic, Nicolo Casale, Antonin Barak, Gianluca Caprari; Giovanni Simeone.

Injured: Pawel Dawidowicz, Ivor Pandur, Panagiotis Retsos

Doubtful: Fabio Depaoli, Gianluca Frabotta, Kevin Lasagna, Darko Lazovic, Miguel Veloso.

Suspended: None

Genoa

Despite extending their unbeaten run to eight league games in their last outing just before the international break, Genoa remain in the relegation fight just eight games to the end of the season.

The visitors come into this tie sitting in 19th place and begin this round facing the prospect of starting Monday six points adrift of safety.

However, just before the international break, they beat Torino 1-0, to put an end to a run of seven games without a win (D7). The result spared ‘Il Grifone’ the indignity of being the first-ever top-flight team to win just one league match all season, while giving them the first run of four straight SA clean sheets since January 2021. They can now hunt a fifth clean sheet in a row for the first time since 1964.

For all the work new coach Alexander Blessin has clearly done with Genoa’s defence, they remain toothless in attack with a return of only three goals across his first eight games in charge, which is a huge cause for concern.

The Ligurians have also failed to score more than once in any league match following the November international break (W1, D10, L7) and must do better this time to stand a chance of winning this game,

Possible Genoa starting line-up

Salvatore Sirigu; Silvan Hefti, Nikola Maksimovic, Mattia Bani, Johan Vásquez; Milan Badelj, Stefano Sturaro, Albert Gudmundsson, Nadiem Amiri, Manolo Portanova; Kelvin Yeboah.

Injured: Domenico Criscito

Doubtful: Aleksander Buksa, Andrea Cambiaso, Lennart Czyborra, Caleb Ekuban, Zinho Vanheusden

Suspended: None
