The Dutch manager may have found himself on the chopping block after Barcelona’s shock defeat to Benfica in the Champions League.

Barcelona endured another disappointing night in the UEFA Champions League as they succumbed to a 3-0 defeat to Benfica.

The Catalans find themselves at the bottom of Group E after consecutive defeats in UCL this season, with the first one coming against Bayern Munich on matchday 1.

Blaugrana manager Ronald Koeman, who has been under a lot of pressure, might have found himself on the chopping block, with Fabrizio Romana reporting the Dutch manager’s future looks bleak after the debacle against Benfica.

Barca have been mediocre under Koeman this season, registering only three wins out of eight games in all competitions.

Romano also reports that Barca have been in contact with Xavi and Roberto Martinez as the Catalan giants are looking to find a replacement for Koeman.

The Dutch gaffer also admitted that his future lies in the hands of the club’s hierarchy while midfielders Frenkie de Jong and Sergio Busquets have defended Koeman.

Koeman said: “I don’t know what Barcelona think and what they will decide about my future. It’s not in my hands.”

De Jong has defended his compatriot Koeman, stating that it wouldn’t be wise to sack him. Barca skipper Sergio Busquets has said that the entire team is responsible for the defeat against the Portuguese side.

De Jong said: “In my opinion, the solution is not to change the coach.”

Busquets said: “It’s easy to sack the manager… the truth is we’re all responsible for this situation. And it’s a critical situation, to be honest.”
