Footballers across the globe have joined in on the protests regarding George Floyd’s killing earlier this month.

Floyd’s death as sparked riots in Minneapolis and the footballing world has decided to take a stand regarding the brutality towards the black community as well.

FA have now revealed that they will take a common sense approach regarding the protests.

Recently, Jadon Sancho revealed a t-shirt with a message during a game and several clubs have shared pictures of players taking the knee during training sessions.

As per the latest stance from FA, if players choose to unveil anti-racism messages during games, they are unlikely to be cautioned or booked.

Usually, a player is booked for taking off their shirt while unveiling messages.

FIFA and FA are committed towards removing racism from the game and the society and therefore they will support such moves from the players as well.

UEFA president Ceferin has echoed similar thoughts as well.

“For the avoidance of doubt, in a Fifa competition the recent demonstrations of players in Bundesliga matches would deserve an applause and not a punishment,” Infantino said.

The president of Uefa, Aleksander Ceferin, also indicated that players will be allowed to pay tribute to Floyd when European competitions resume. “Football is a sport which encourages tolerance, inclusion and justice,” Ceferin said. “These are the same values being espoused by those showing solidarity to George Floyd.”

Meanwhile, an FA spokesperson said: “The FA strongly condemns discrimination of any kind and has endeavoured to ensure football in England is both diverse and inclusive in recent years. Where any behaviours or gestures on the pitch that may constitute a breach of the Laws of the Game have to be assessed, they would be reviewed on a case-by-case basis with a commonsense approach and understanding of their context.

“The power of football can break down barriers across communities and we remain deeply committed to removing all forms of discrimination from across the game we all love.”
