PSG 0-2 Monaco: PSG stunned at home after huge win against Barca in UCL

Niko Kovac-Monaco

Monaco have stunned PSG at Parc Des Princes.

PSG have suffered a shocking 2-0 defeat against Monaco, thus casting shadows on the chances to regain the title.

Les Parisiens were coming off an emphatic win against Barcelona in the Champions League earlier this week and Mauricio Pochettino went with the same line up he used against the Catalans ( only Angel Herrera started in the place of Marco Verratti) yet the outcome was what wouldn’t have he expected.

Kylian Mbappe, who ran the show with a stellar hat-trick, struggled against Monaco’s compact defence and so did the fellow attackers Moise Kean and Mauro Icardi.

The visitors took an early lead inside six minutes through youngster Sofiane Diope’s header before holding back Les Parisiens for their entire first half, not allowing them to register a single shot on the target.

Centre-back Guillermo Maripan’s goal earlier on in the second half made the job done for Niko Kovac and his men, who closed their gap with PSG at the fourth position in the table.

The defending champions were indeed lifeless throughout the game and the result has slightly dented their title chances, with Lille sitting clear at the top of the table with four points.

PSG looked completely a different side tonight from the one which humbled Barca and although they have gained an unassailable 4 – 1 in the aggregate they need to make sure that they should not bottle the opportunity of heading into the last eight.

Pochettino’s men will be up against Dijon before they host the Blaugrana in the second leg.
