The legendary Spanish midfielder has spoken about his desire to manage in the English top-flight.

Former Barcelona midfielder Xavi has revealed his desire to manage in the Premier League, considering the passion of football in England.

Xavi commenced his managerial career after taking over at Qatar outfit Al Saad in 2019 and has since led them to a handful of trophies.

The legendary Spanish midfielder has long been mooted to become the manager of his boyhood club Barca, but to no avail till now.

However, Xavi wants to follow the footsteps of his former manager Pep Guardiola, who has arguably become the best coach in the English top-flight over the years.

The Spaniard said: “I would be thrilled to work there. Everyone tells me that the Premier League is wonderful, a great league to work in. First of all, for the passion with how they live the game. How they treat and respect you, the atmosphere and the stadiums.

So why not? I could see myself in England, definitely, it’s one of the things I’d like to experience in my career.”

Xavi was considered one of the best midfielders of his generation during his spell at Barca that spanned around two decades.

He also revealed that Premier League giants Manchester United showed interest in him once but he rejected the offer straight away due to his commitment to the Catalan giants.

Xavi added: “Manchester United approached me once through Sir Alex Ferguson’s brother, but my answer was very quick.

I was focused on Barca, my priority was only Barca. I am a fan from the very inside of myself and that’s why it was impossible for me to leave.”
