Manchester City

Manchester City will look to bounce back from their first defeat of the season when they take on Brighton at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Manchester City tasted their first defeat of the season last week against Liverpool, with a Mohamed Salah solitary strike the only thing separating the two sides after 90 minutes.

The loss to Jurgen Klopp’s side saw Manchester City lose further ground to Arsenal as Mikel Arteta’s side now sits four points clear at the top.

Pep Guardiola will look to see his side shrug off their defeat to the Reds and use it as a morale booster to make a quick bounce back from their defeat.

With the World Cup approaching its starting date, the Cityzens will be keen to restore the gap between them and the League leaders, and possibly pip Mikel Arteta’s side to the top spot.

Manchester City have been utterly dominant in this fixture, with four wins in their last five games, their last defeat to the Seagulls coming way back in June 2021. Despite their dropped loss last weekend, Pep Guardiola’s side remain the favourites to pick up all three points against Roberto De Zerbi’s side.

Possible Manchester City starting line-up

Ederson Moraes, Joao Cancelo, Ruben Dias, Manuel Akanji, Sergio Gomez; Kevin De Bruyne, Rodri, Bernardo Silva; Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden, Erling Haaland.

Injured: Kyle Walker, John Stones, Kalvin Phillips

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None

Brighton

Brighton, on the other hand, have seen their early season form wane since the departure of Graham Potter, who moved on to Chelsea

Roberto De Zerbi, who was brought in to replace the English coach, has not been able to replicate the success of the Potter, and Brighton have since then dropped from the top four into the eighth position since the arrival of the Italian coach.

Brighton have failed to pick up a single win since the arrival of the Italian, with two defeats and two draws, their latest coming against struggling Nottingham Forest last week Wednesday.

The Seagulls now face a risk of missing out on European football next season, unless the Italian coach can stop the rot and get back to winning ways.

However, Brighton face a daunting task when they travel to the blue side of Manchester, but with Liverpool beating the champions last weekend, Roberto De Zerbi’s side may have been presented with a blueprint on how to beat Pep Guardiola’s side.

Possible Brighton starting line-up

Robert Sanchez; Joel Veltman, Lewis Dunk, Adam Webster; Solly March, Moises Caicedo, Alexis Mac Allister, Pervis Estupinan; Leandro Trossard, Pascal Groß; Danny Welbeck.

Injured: Jakub Moder, Kaoru Mitoma

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None
