Barcelona winger Memphis Depay has been linked with a move away from the Spanish club this summer.

According to a report from the Mirror, Barcelona could look to cash in on the 28-year-old because of their financial problems.

The Dutch international has been an important player for Barcelona over the past year, and he managed to score 13 goals and pick up 2 assists across all competitions.

Former Premier League star Robert Pires has claimed that the player has unfinished business in the Premier League, and he could return to England to prove his quality.

“I think Depay wants to come back to the Premier League, and he feels he has unfinished business in England,” Pires claimed. “It didn’t work out for him at Manchester United, and Depay is a very proud player.

“He perhaps feels he wasn’t given a chance to perform and earn the right to stay longer, considering he was so young and showed glimpses of undoubted potential.

“Depay might want to return to Manchester United or he might be motivated to prove them wrong by performing for one of their rivals in the Premier League,” the former Arsenal star added.

Depay spent two seasons with Manchester United in the Premier League after joining the club in 2015. Still, he had a disappointing time at Old Trafford, and it will be interesting to see if the Red Devils decide to bring him back this summer.

Manchester United need to add more quality and depth in the final third, and the Dutch international would be a quality signing.

The 28-year-old can operate as a centre-forward as well as a left-sided winger, and he will add pace and goals to the Manchester United attack.

Cristiano Ronaldo had to carry the Premier League side on his back last season, and the Portuguese international clearly needs more help from his teammates.

Manchester United will be hoping to get back into the Champions League and win some trophies next season, and they will have to bring in the necessary reinforcements in order for that to happen.

A player like Depay could make a big impact in the game.

Given Barcelona‘s financial crisis, the Dutch international could be available for a reasonable price this summer. Manchester United should look to give him an opportunity to prove his worth in English football once again.

When the player left Manchester United, the Red Devils had inserted a buyback clause in his contract, but they failed to trigger it before his move to Barcelona. This obviously gives the Spanish outfit the power to demand a premium for his services this summer, but they are under pressure to balance their books.

Barcelona are also looking to bring in attacking reinforcements this summer, and Robert Lewandowski has been linked with a move to Spain.

The Spanish club will have to raise funds to complete the signing of the Bayern Munich forward, and they could look to get rid of Depay for a reasonable price to accelerate a move for the Polish international.

It will be interesting to see how the situation evolves over the next few weeks, but there is no doubt that Depay’s move to Old Trafford could be ideal for all parties right now.
