Former Premier League star Mkhitaryan in prolific form for Roma this season

Stats reveal that former Manchester United and Arsenal star Mkhitaryan has more goal contributions as a midfielder this season in Europe

Roma midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been in sumptuous form in Serie A this season as he registered his sixth assist in the 4-1 defeat against Atalanta in the weekend, adding to it, seven goals.

The numbers place him amongst the best midfielders in Europe this season, only Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes has 14 goal contributions (9 goals and 5 assists).

Mkhitaryan completed his move to the Stadio Olimpico permanently in the summer after spending the last season on loan from Arsenal. In just two seasons in Serie A, the Armenian has racked up a total of 17 goals and 15assists, which shows how good he has evolved into a prolific midfielder unlike his time in the Premier League.

The 31-year-old moved to Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund during Jose Mourinho’s reign and he failed to live up to the expectations.

The struggles followed when he moved to Arsenal – in the craziest swap deal involving Alexis Sanchez – where he couldn’t leave a big impression.

However, Roma gave him the escape route in a season-long loan deal last season and he successfully reinstated his form.

Paulo Fonseca’s side have been impressive this season – bar the defeats against Napoli and Atalanta – and Mkhitaryan has played a crucial role in it. He scored a hat-trick against Genoa and followed up with a brace against Parma in the next matchday.

Similar to Mkhitaryan, ex-Premier League stars Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez and Ashley Young have become an integral part of Inter Milan.
