Chelsea striker Timo Werner has reportedly agreed to slash his wages in order to seal his move to RB Leipzig this summer.

According to a report by 90min, the German is keen on leaving Stamford Bridge this summer and does not mind taking a substantial pay in his salary to force through a permanent exit from the club.

Werner was signed from RB Leipzig for £47.5m just two years ago. But he failed to live up to the expectation that greeted his signing at the time, scoring just 23 goals and making 21 assists in 89 appearances in all competitions.

According to reports, he is now on his way back to the German club where he made a name for himself by scoring 34 goals and 13 assists in just 45 games in his final season.

Chelsea will reportedly recover just £25m (€30m) by selling Werner, who is currently one of the top earners at the club.

Werner made public his desire to leave Chelsea last month after growing frustrated at a lack of game time at the club. He wants to go to a team where he will be in the starting XI to give him a chance to play in the World Cup coming this winter. The 26-year-old was a regular starter for Hansi Flick’s side this summer, and he is keen to maintain that form heading into the Qatar event.
