Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur will enter this 193rd edition of the North London Derby looking to begin a challenging run of games on a positive note.

The hosts will enter a difficult four-game period that includes this game against fierce rivals Arsenal, high-flying Fulham and title challengers Manchester City twice. How they perform in this game could determine how their season goes, but a recent thumping 4-0 win at Crystal Palace would have given them the confidence to approach this game.

Manager Antonio Conte described the result as “a good reaction” to a bruising home loss to Aston Villa (0-2) just days before. The aim will now be to make it two consecutive league wins for the first time since October, when they won back-to-back games against Brighton and Everton.

Tottenham’s 1-3 loss away to Arsenal in the reverse H2H was their first loss not only of the Premier League season after a promising start (W5, D2) but would go on to be the first of four defeats from five clashes against top-seven opposition (going into the weekend).

With their target this season still to finish in the top half, Spurs will have to do better against top opponents to stand a chance.

Possible Tottenham starting line-up

Hugo Lloris, Cristian Romero, Eric Dier, Clement Lenglet, Matt Doherty, Pierre Emil Højbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur, Ivan Perisic, Dejan Kulusevski, Heung-Min Son, Harry Kane.

Injured: Richarlison, Lucas Moura

Doubtful: Rodrigo Bentancur, Dejan Kulusevski

Suspended: None

Arsenal

Arsenal dropped points for just the third time this season last time when they were held to a goalless draw with Newcastle.

The result and Manchester City’s narrow win over Chelsea means that the runaway league leaders come into this tie five points ahead of the rest.

But victory both here and at home to Manchester United the following weekend would confirm their standout credentials for a first PL title since 2003/04.

Arsenal’s record-breaking nature of their season was further highlighted when an FA Cup demolition of Oxford United became their 20th win from 25 games across all competitions this season (D2, L3), the fewest games required for 20 competitive victories in any of their 137 seasons.

They will now travel to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium looking to show how far they have grown since last season when they were embarrassed in this stadium.

But this fixture does seem to favour the home side, with the Gunners’ home win against Spurs in October the 17th consecutive league game between these two sides not won by the visiting side on the day (D6, L11)-the longest such drought in the history of North London derby.

Possible Arsenal starting line-up

Aaron Ramsdale, Ben White, William Saliba, Gabriel, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Martin Ødegaard, Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka, Bukayo Saka, Edward Nketiah, Gabriel Martinelli.

Injured: Gabriel Jesus, Reiss Nelson

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None
