Arsenal have decided to sell Emiliano Martinez this summer and the 28-year-old goalkeeper is closing in on a move to Aston Villa.
The Argentine is not a key starter for the Gunners but he wants to play regular first-team football.
Aston Villa needed to bring in a quality keeper this summer and Martinez should prove to be a good signing for them.
Star keeper Tom Heaton is out with an injury until October and the player is unlikely to return to match fitness before November. Bringing in Martinez will help Dean Smith cope with Heaton’s absence.
It will be interesting to see how the 28-year-old performs at Villa park once the transfer goes through.
According to reports, the Arsenal player has already agreed on personal terms with Aston Villa on a four-year contract worth in the region of £60,000 per week.
The player has had interest from Spain as well but it seems that he is keen on staying in the Premier League and therefore Aston Villa are his first choice.
Arsenal were looking to keep him at the club this coming season and they offered him an improved contract. Despite a series of discussions between Martinez and head coach Mikel Arteta, the Argentine has been given no assurances over a place in starting eleven. The Argentine has turned down more money from Arsenal in order to play regularly at Aston Villa.
Martinez has been a quality backup for Leno at Arsenal and he has the quality to establish himself as a regular starter at Villa park next year.
