Chelsea edge past 10-man Fulham thanks to Mason Mount’s late winner

Mason Mount-Chelsea

Chelsea picked up a narrow 1-0 win over Fulham in the Premier League earlier tonight.

Fulham defended for more than half of the game with 10 men and Chelsea managed to find a breakthrough late on in the second half.

Mason Mount scored the only goal of the game on the 78th minute to secure all three points for the Blues.

Chelsea could have easily taken the lead in the first half but Mason Mount was denied by a smashing shot off the crossbar and Hakim Ziyech was denied by Alphonse Areola.

Fulham went down to ten men at the stroke of half time when Antonee Robinson was sent off after a reckless tackle on Cesar Azpilicueta.

Tammy Abraham had an impressive chance in the second half but he shot straight at the Fulham keeper.

The Blues broke the deadlock on the 78th minute when the Fulham keeper parried a cross from Ben Chilwell onto the path of Mason Mount, who steered the ball into the net.

The defeat tonight leaves Fulham 18th in the Premier League table with 12 points and Chelsea are now 7th with 29 points.

The Blues will be hoping to secure Champions League qualification and they will have to improve in order to break into the top four. Meanwhile, Fulham will be looking to beat the drop this season and they will need to put together a winning run in order to get out of the bottom three.
