English Football 2020-21: Premier League Winter break, FA and Carabao cup replays get scrapped

There will be no winter break in the upcoming Premier League season.

The Premier League have revised the schedule for the 20/21 season, which will have no winter breaks in it.

The winter break, which was introduced last season, usually lasted for around a week in February. However, due to the schedule congestion, the Premier League have decided to abandon it for the upcoming season.

The upcoming season in the English top-flight will be a shortened campaign, which will have five weeks trimmed.

FA Cup

The extension of the 19/20 season has also caused the FA Cup replays to get discarded. There will be only one leg played in the Carabao Cup semi-finals as well.

The Premier League will commence on 12th September, with all the fixtures to be announced next week. Manchester City and Manchester United will start the campaign lately owing to their participation in the continental competitions. The season will end in May of next year with no significant break spree in between.

Carabao Cup

The Carabao Cup will have its first round played next month, lasting until next year’s February.

Liverpool lifted the title for the 19/20 season while Manchester City are the only English club left in the Champions League.

The transfer window for the English top-flight will end in October, with the majority of the clubs hit financially by the pandemic.

It will be interesting to see how the clubs will prepare themself for a hectic campaign ahead of them.
