AS Roma are reportedly nearing the signing of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.

The Serie A side are said to be interested in signing the former Liverpool who is out of favour at Parc des Princes following a poor performance in his debut season in Paris.

According to Italian news media calciomercato.com, Roma have reached an agreement with the Dutch international who has been on Galtier’s transfer list since the manager’s appointment at PSG.

The report also states that a deal to sign Wijnaldum will take the form of an initial one-year loan with the option to buy for €10 million.

For the first year of the deal, PSG will cover a part of the player’s salary and he will be allowed to leave permanently if he makes a number of appearances for Jose Mourinho’s side.

The former Chelsea and Inter Milan boss is looking to build a team that will challenge for the Serie A title this season and sees the former Liverpool and Newcastle man as possessing the right qualities that will take his team to the next level.

The Dutchman was an ever-present name on the Liverpool team that won the Champions League and Premier League titles under Jurgen Klopp. But since his transfer to PSG, he has failed to hit the heights he enjoyed at Anfield and so has been placed on a transfer list this summer.

He made a total of 38 appearances at PSG last season, with most of those coming as a substitute.
