Italian giants AS Roma appointed Jose Mourinho as their manager after a disappointing season last year and the Portuguese was brought in to shake things up and help the side get back to their former glories.

After a few disappointing spells notably at Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, there were murmurs that Jose Mourinho is now out of his touch and he is no longer the manager he used to be.

However, the Portuguese manager has shown that he is far from finished at this level.

Roma have made an exceptional start to their domestic campaign under him and there is no reason why they cannot challenge for the league title this season.

The Italian Serie A giants are currently second in the league table with nine points from three matches.

Defending champions Inter Milan are just one point ahead of them in the first place, having played one extra game.

If Roma manage to beat Verona on Sunday they will be two points clear at the top of the table.

The capital club have the second-best attack in the league right now with nine goals scored in three matches and they have conceded just twice. Only AC Milan have a better defensive record in the league.

Meanwhile, Roma have done well in Europe as well. They managed to pick up a 5-1 win over CSKA Sofia earlier this week in the UEFA conference league.

Roma’s performances under Mourinho show that the Portuguese is well and truly back to his best and he will need to win a trophy with them this season to rubber-stamp his revival.

This is a golden opportunity for Mourinho to win the title with Roma especially with Inter Milan’s title-winning squad dismantled during the transfer window and Juventus still finding their bearings after Ronaldo’s departure.
