Newcastle Jets

Newcastle jets will look to make it two wins in two games when they welcome A-League defending champions Melbourne City to McDonald Jones Stadium on Tuesday.

The hosts beat Brisbane Roar 22-1 in their last outing to take themselves off the foot of the league table into 10th place. An own goal from Brisbane Roar’s goalkeeper Macklin Freke and a 70th-minute strike from Angus Thurgate sealed the win for Arthur Papas’ side. Jay O’Shea missed a penalty for the Roar, while Juan Liscano’s 64th-minute goal for Warren Moon’s side only proved to be a consolation in the game.

With two wins from their last three home games, they will come into this tie confident that they can get a good result.

Melbourne City

Defending champions Melbourne City will look to get back to winning ways when they travel to Newcastle this Tuesday.

The visitors were beaten by Western United in their last game. In an end-to-end game at the AAMI Park in Melbourne, Western United took all three points courtesy of a 71st-minute goal by Australian midfielder Steven Lustica.

The result leaves Patrick Kisnorbo’s side sitting in sixth place ahead of this round of games.

City’s form has been patchy in recent times as they have taken just six points from the last available 15. Only WS Wanderers have taken fewer points than they did in that period.

They will look to turn around that poor form by picking up maximum points from this game.
