Xavi wants to sign the experienced Chelsea defender

Barcelona have expressed their interest in signing Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta.

According to the Daily Mail, Xavi is keen on signing the Blues defender on a free transfer next summer.

Azpilicueta has been serving the Londoners since 2012 however his importance has grown in recent times, especially since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel.

The 32-year-old has revived his career under the German manager, playing a key part in Chelsea winning the Champions League title last season.

He was also an integral part of Luis Enrique’s Spanish national team that reached the semi-finals of Euro 2020.

However, Azpilicueta’s role has been reduced this season, as he has appeared only once in the last seven Premier League games.

The Spaniard’s contract expires at the end of this season, meaning he is allowed to sign a pre-contract with the clubs outside England.

It has also been added that Barca have already initiated talks with the Chelsea skipper over a potential transfer.

Xavi is said to be pushing for the deal as he believes Azpilicueta can bring a lot of quality and experience to Barca’s defence.

The Spaniard’s arrival could also mark the end of Dani Alves, whom Barcelona signed on a one-year deal last month.

The Brazilian full-back is not allowed to play until January and it is highly unlikely that Barca would renew his offer if they are to sign Azpilicueta.

Adeyemi rejects Barcelona offer

Barcelona are one of the clubs reportedly keeping tabs on Salzburg striker Karim Adeyemi.

The Catalan giants are also said to have submitted an offer worth €40m for his signing.

According to a new report from Sky Sports Austria via Barca Blaugranes, the German youngster is only interested in moving to Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.

Adeyemi feels that a move to Spain would hinder his chances with the German national team.

The 19-year-old has been in stellar form this season, racking up 15 goals in all competitions. He also scored in his debut with the German national team in September.
