Atletico Madrid picked up a 1-0 win over Levante in La Liga yesterday.

Levante’s Bruno Gonzalez scored an own goal on the 15th minute that proved to be the deciding goal in the game.

The win leaves Atletico Madrid in the third place in the table and they are now in with a good chance of securing next year’s Champions League qualification.

Diego Simeone’s men are now two points above fourth-placed Sevilla and six above Getafe in fifth.

It was their third win in a row since resumption of Spanish football and Simeone will be delighted with his side’s performances so far.

Levante produced a good display yesterday but they failed to break down Atletico’s resistance. The capital club have always had an impressive defensive unit under Simeone’s management and they showed their quality at the back once again.

Atletico Madrid managed to deal with everything that was thrown at them and they deserved to grind out the win.

Levante did put a lot of pressure on the visitors and they will be disappointed to have come away from the game without scoring a goal. Furthermore, the own goal will hurt their morale as well.

It will be interesting to see how Levante bounce back from this in their next game.

The home side are now 11th in the table after that defeat and they will have to improve a lot. They are just four points off the 15th place and they could drop down the table rapidly if they do not get back to winning ways soon.
