Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann has not ruled out his club making a move for Tottenham striker Harry Kane

The Bundesliga giants who are looking for a replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who left for Barcelona this summer under acrimonious circumstances, have reportedly identified Kane as the perfect man to step into the void left by the Pole.

But the England man will come at a high price given how much he is valued by Tottenham.

However, that has not deterred Bayern Munich from entertaining hopes of signing him, with Nagelsmann clearly enthused by the striker.

Speaking to the press amid Bayern Munich’s pre-season preparations in the United States, the Bayern manager refused to rule out a future move for Kane, leaving open the possibility of the England captain perhaps one day joining the German giants. Nagelsmann said: “He’s very expensive that’s the problem – but brilliant player, one of two or three who can play as a centre forward [as well as a] No 10, but he’s very strong, brilliant with [his] head and both feet,” he added.

“He could score a lot in the Bundesliga. I don’t know the price, but it’s really tough for Bayern Munich. We’ll see what happens in the future.”

Since Lewandowski’s very public departure from Bayern, rumours linking Kane to the Bavarian side have intensified.

Popular German tabloid Bild reported on Friday that Bayern Munich had spoken to Kane’s representatives over a summer move. But the report says that Bayern had been told a firm ‘no’ over a move this summer as Kane had committed to remaining at the club under Antonio Conte

Even though the England captain had said that he wished to depart Spurs last summer, with Manchester City making various bids for him, he now wants to stay because of Conte, who he feels can bring trophies to the club.

Kane has less than two years left on his current Spurs deal and this season will prove decisive in whether his long-term future is in the north London club or somewhere else.

Meanwhile, Nagelsmann is not the only senior employee at Bayern Munich to have recently spoken about their admiration of Kane.

Oliver Kahn, Bayern Munich’s CEO, described the 28-year-old as a ‘top striker’ but said that was a ‘dream for the future’.

“He is under contract with Tottenham,” he said.

“Sure, an absolute top striker, but that’s all a dream of the future. Now we have to look at getting the squad together for the current season. So let’s see what else happens.”
