Manchester City are not the first choice for Dortmund striker Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland-Borussia Dortmund

Erling Haaland is being chased by a host of European giants.

Europe’s top clubs are set to battle out for Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland when his 64m pounds release clause becomes active next summer.

Manchester City is one of the clubs keeping close tabs on the Norwegian prodigy, as they want to solve their striker crisis. Citizens tried to sign Harry Kane in the last summer window but to no avail.

According to a new report from Team Talk, Man City are not Haaland’s preferred choice as they sit behind Real Madrid and PSG.

Chelsea and Barcelona are also said to be in the race for Haaland, but the former’s acquisition of Romelu Lukaku in the summer and the latter’s financial crisis could put them out of the equation.

Los Blancos have identified the Norwegian striker as a marquee signing alongside Kylian Mbappe next summer.

However, the report also adds that Paris Saint-Germain would compete with the Spanish giants for his signing at the end of this season.

PSG could have to prepare for a life without Mbappe, whose current deal expires next summer. The French World Cup winner attempted to force out an exit from the French capital to join Madrid in the summer window but his efforts went in vain. Les Parisiens will have to part ways with him for nothing if he doesn’t agree over a contract extension. Robert Lewandowski is another name on the French giants’ wishlist.

Elsewhere, City could look for options like Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic if they fail in the pursuit of Haaland.
