Elche
Elche will look to finally get a La Liga win this season when they host fellow relegation candidates Getafe on Monday.
The hosts are setting records for all the wrong reasons after they drew 2-2 with Espanyol last time out in a result that keeps them winless after 11 rounds of any league for the first time this century (D4, L7).
After the game, under-fire manager Jorge Almirón, who extended his personal winless streak to 19 league games, asked his players for “tranquillity” as they prepare to welcome Getafe.
Despite his outward show of defiance, Almiron will be desperate for a change as his side are now the only winless La Liga team this term. They are also defensively bad and have conceded 26 goals after just 11 games, with Bochum in Germany the only team in Europe’s top five leagues that has conceded more at this point (28).
They remain unsurprisingly rooted at the bottom of the table, though they can gain some heart from scoring first-half match openers in four of their last five league outings. Still, they failed to even hold the lead until half-time on three of those occasions (D3, L1).
Possible Elche starting line-up
Edgar Badia; Helibelton Palacios, Gonzalo Verdú, Enzo Roco, Pedro Bigas; Álex Collado, Raúl Guti, Omar Mascarell, Carlos Clerc; Lucas Boye, Pere Milla.
Injured: Javier Pastore, Federico Fernandez, Helibelton Palacios, Fidel
Doubtful: None
Suspended: None
Getafe
Like Elche, Getafe are also struggling to win games this season.
The visitors who have won just twice this season come into this game without a win in five league games (D3, L2).
Their most recent outing was a 1-1 draw with Celta Vigo, a game that saw them concede a last-gasp equaliser. Azulones boss Quique Sánchez Flores was pretty distraught after the game describing the result as ‘’painful’’ for his side.
He will hope that his side can hold on for better results when they travel to Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero on Monday.
With three top-eight finishes between 2017/18 – 2019/20, Getafe’s La Liga status once looked certain, but having finished just one point from demotion last season, the threat of relegation is very real.
The visitors currently hover immediately above the drop zone, and six points above Elche, so a win here will push them further away from the red line. And so they will be desperate to get themselves back on track here.
However, with both teams drawing three of their last five league contests and the latest H2H record (W2, D1, L2) offering little clue, this seems an extremely unpredictable tie.
Possible Getafe starting line-up
David Soria; Juan Iglesias, Djené Dakonam, Stefan Mitrovic, Domingos Duarte, Gastón Álvarez; Ángel Algobia, Luis Milla, Nemanja Maksimovic; Borja Mayoral, Enes Ünal.
Injured: Munir El Haddadi, Mauro Arambarri
Doubtful: Fabricio Angileri
Suspended: None
