Real 2 – 0 Atletico : Zidane’s men end Atletico’s winning run in the Madrid derby

Atletico were handed their first defeat of the season by city rivals Real Madrid.

Zinedine Zidane continues to thrive under pressure as he has led Real Madrid to another convincing victory, this time the opponent is their rivals Atletico Madrid.

Prior to the game, Atletico were deemed as the favourites in the derby citing their unbeaten form in La Liga this season and at the same time, Los Blancos have been undergoing a rough patch, which saw them lose a string of matches.

Nonetheless, everything changed when the teams stepped into the field as Casemiro put Madrid ahead in the 15th minute of the game.

Atletico were uncharacteristically all over the place and the interesting thing is they couldn’t register more than one shot on target throughout the game.

Diego Simeone’s hopes of making a comeback in the second half were completely thwarted when Dani Carvajal’s long-range hit the post and then the back of Jan Oblak before going to the nets.

Los Blancos, who looked as if they were out of the equation, are now third in the La Liga table all of a sudden.

Having earlier led Real to an impressive win against Monchengladbach in a must-win game to progress to the knockouts of the Champions League, Zidane has now delivered once again by beating the league leaders at ease.

Meanwhile, Atletico were given a reality check by their local rivals and would look to counter the problems in the coming games.
