A last-gasp finish from Lorenzo Pellegrini helps Roma edge out Spezia in a seven-goal thriller.

AS Roma have edged out Spezia 4-3 in a thrilling Serie A contest at Stadio Olimpico, as five goals were shared between both the sides in the second half.

Lorenzo Pellegrini turned out the hero for Giallorossi after scoring an injury-time winner to thwart Spezia’s come-back efforts.

Roma striker Borja Mayoral opened the account before his strike was cancelled out by Spezia’s Roberto Picolli minutes later.

Mayoral established a strong lead with the help of goals from Mayoral (his second of the game) and Rick Karsdorp at the start of the second half before Spezia pulled one back as three goals were scored in no time.

The visitors almost spoiled the party of Giallorossi with an equalizer from Daniel Verde at the stroke of the normal time. But it wasn’t the climax as Lorenzo Pellegrini came up with an injury-time winner to help Roma seal a thrilling win.

Following the victory, Roma have now moved to third in Serie A table, trailing Inter Milan by three points.

Giallorossi manager Paulo Fonseca was in jubilation and also offered his thoughts on the win.

“It was an emotional moment. It would’ve been an injustice not to win this game, as we deserved to win fully, and it was a moment when we proved that we are all together,”

Roma must be feeling the Scudetto is not far from their sight and they await Verona in their next fixture.
