PSG midfielder Leandro Paredes has backed calls for PSG to move for Lionel Messi in the summer, stating that the Argentine International would be welcome at Paris.

The Barca forward was subject to transfer speculation last summer after handing in a transfer request after becoming unsatisfied with the direction of the club. But his desire to take on a new challenge was quickly arrested by the club, who referred to a clause in his contract to keep him in Spain for the season.

With his contract in Barca ending this summer, speculations continue to grow on the possible destination of the six-time Ballon d’Or winner.

PSG and Manchester City are two clubs that have been tipped to make a move considering their financial implications of a Messi transfer.

With Messi free to speak to other clubs from January if no contract extension is agreed with Barca, Paredes has backed his fellow countryman to join him at Parc des Princes.

The midfielder told ESPN: as reported by Goal.com “Messi at PSG? I hope so. We all want him to come, but it will be his decision.

“We have an incredible squad, good players, good people, we take advantage of that.

“As I have said, I hope Leo will make the best decision for him, but we will welcome him with open arms.”

Meanwhile, PSG forward, Neymar had also made known his desire to play alongside Messi again, urging the club to make it happen. The Brazilian spent four years alongside Messi at Barca between 2013 and 2017.

Speaking after his sides Champions League win over Manchester United, the Brazilian forward said:

“What I want the most is to enjoy playing with him again.”

“For sure, next year we have to do it.”

Barcelona are still hoping that Messi commits his long-term future by signing a new contract that will keep him at Barca throughout his playing career.
