The French League is shaping up for a blockbuster conclusion as the title race seems set to go down to the wire this season.

Ligue 1 – Title Race and Champions League Qualification

Leaders Lille missed a glorious opportunity to open up a significant lead with just one game remaining. They were held to a goalless draw against St Etienne, and now they will have to match Paris Saint-Germain‘s result in the final game of the season to win the title.

Meanwhile, PSG continued the title charge with a comfortable 4-0 win over 10-man Reims thanks to goals from Neymar, Mbappe, Marquinhos and Kean.

They are just one point adrift of Lille, and they will have to rely on the League leaders dropping points in their next game to win the title.

Only one point separates Lille (80) from Paris (79) before the final Ligue 1 matchday of the season, the smallest gap between a leader and the second at this stage since the 2001/02 season (Lens with a one-point lead over Lyon but OL ultimately champion).

Lyon boosted their hopes of finishing in the top three with a 5-2 win over Nimes. On the other hand, Monaco picked up a 2-1 win over Rennes to keep their place in the top three. They are now contesting for ‘Champions league play-off’ qualification.

The third placed team will qualify for Champions League play-off, whereas the fourth team has to settle for Europa League.

Memphis Depay becomes the first Lyon player to score 20 goals and deliver 10 assists in a single Ligue 1 season since Opta analysed the competition (2006/07). Brilliant. #NOOL

Europa League Qualification

5th placed Marseille edged out a 3-2 thriller against Angers.

Elsewhere Bordeaux picked up a 3-0 win over Lens, and it will be a massive blow to the away side’s hopes of qualifying for the Europa League. Goals from Zerkane, Ui-jo Hwang and Youssof Sabaly ensured the three points for Bordeaux.

Relegation from Ligue 1

Dijon were beaten comprehensively by Nantes 4-0 at home. Elsewhere Montpellier were held to a goalless draw against Brest.

Nice were beaten at home by Strasbourg 2-0, and Lorient edged out a 2-1 contest against Metz.

Reims, Bordeaux, Strasbourg, Brest, Nantes and Lorient are all separated by just two points, and the relegation race will be just as nail-biting as the title race.
