Lyon 4-1 Dijon: Depay’s hattrick helps Lyon get off to a flying start

Lyon 4 - 1 Dijon Depay's hattrick helps Lyon get off to a flying start

The Champions League semi-finals were off to a flying start.

Lyon went head to head with Dijon in their first game of Ligue 1 this season.

Despite giving away an early goal, Memphis Depay came up with a hat trick to inspire the Les Gones to a 4-1 win in the end.

Depay was on fire throughout the game as he first provided the equalizer in the 39th minute with a penalty. Aided by an own goal from Dijon FC and another two goals from Depay, Lyon capped off the game with a comprehensive win.

The Dutch forward was flamboyant throughout the entire game, showing off his flashy skills and humiliating the defenders. Depay’s performance reminded of fellow Ligue 1 star and PSG ace Neymar.

On the other hand, Moussa Dembele had a match to forget after displaying a lousy performance. The performance was a complete antithesis to his Champions League heroics in the quarter-finals against Manchester City, where Lyon ended as the winners.

After making history in the Champions League as the youngest player ever to play in the knockouts, Rayan Charki came off the bench in the latter stage of the game.

The young midfielders Bruno Guimaraes and Maxence Caqueret had a great game to remember, especially the former one marshalled the middle of the park.

Lyon are now second in the league table and will face Bordeaux in their next fixture.
