Troyes

Six months after the season started, Troyes are still looking over their shoulders, fearing the prospect of relegation.

The hosts come into this tie sitting in 13th place but just five points behind the 17th-placed Brest, who have joined the expanded pool of teams that will get relegated at the season’s close.

With the French league ready to reduce their teams to 18 next season, four teams will get relegated this year to accommodate the change next season. So, it has gotten tighter at the back, with no one wanting to get caught.

While Troyes are sitting a decent five points off on paper, their form heading into this tie is worrying. The hosts have won just once in their nine league games and were most recently beaten by Lille in the Coupe de France.

However, that sole win came in their last league outing, meaning there is some hope for Patrick Kisnorbo and his men, who will be desperate to better their 15th-placed last season’s finish.

Possible Troyes starting line-up

Mateusz Lis, Thierno Baldé, Yoann Salmier, Erik Palmer-Brown, Abdu Conte, Rominigue Kouamé, Xavier Chavalerin, Andreas Bruus, Rony Lopes, Wilson Odobert, Renaud Ripart.

Injured: Karim Azamoum, Lucien Agoumé

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None

Marseille

Meanwhile, Marseille, who are looking to better their second-place finish of last season, come into this fixture looking to boost their slim chances of catching league leaders PSG at the top.

The visitors are Ligue 1’s most in-form team, having won four of their last five league games (D1) while scoring 14 times and conceding six. They come into this game on the back of a 2-1 win over Hyeres, which took their winning run in all competitions to five games.

Their most recent league win over Montpellier, coupled with PSG’s first-season loss, means that they now sit eight points behind the number-one spot. Even so, they are not the number two team in France for now. Instead, that tag belongs to Lens, who they trail by four points.

So while they ultimately hope to catch PSG, their immediate goal will be to gather maximum points here and keep their chances of a top-two finish alive.

But they will have to play this game without the suspended Nuno Tavares, Eric Bailly, and the injured duo of Samuel Gigot and Amine Harit.

Possible Marseille starting line-up

Pau López, Chancel Mbemba, Leonardo Balerdi, Sead Kolasinac, Jonathan Clauss, Valentin Rongier, Jordan Veretout, Issa Kabore, Cengiz Ünder, Dimitri Payet, Alexis Sanchez.

Injured: Samuel Gigot, Amine Harit

Doubtful: None

Suspended: Eric Bailly, Nuno Tavares
