Lionel Messi named the best player of 2021 in Europe by CIES Football Observatory.

According to a list drawn by CIES Football Observatory, Barcelona skipper Lionel Messi has been ranked the best player of Europe for this calendar year whilst La Liga players Toni Kroos and Nabil Fekir also made it to the top ten of the list.

The rankings are based on the player’s various technical characteristics regardless of the playing position since the start of January 1, 2021.

Messi has been at his lethal best since the start of 2021, racking up 27 goals and assists altogether. Following the Argentine in the list is Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski with 89.5 points and the Polish man has garnered a total of 35 goals in Bundesliga, the highest by any player across Europe’s top five leagues.

Surprisingly, Juventus ace Cristiano Ronaldo is fifth on the list behind Jorginho ( Chelsea) and Ruben Dias ( Manchester City). Both Jorginho and Dias have been productive in the Premier League this season.

Real Betis star Nabil Fekir is behind Ronaldo due to his impressive form in La Liga of late.

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos is seventh behind Fekir as the German midfielder continues to deliver his best to Zinedine Zidane’s side.

Andre Silva, Lorenzo Insigne are all others who have made it to the top 10 whilst the likes of Karim Benzema, Alexander Isak and Luis Suarez, albeit their impressive forms, failed to make the cut.
