Barnsley 0-1 Chelsea: Abraham’s controversial winner sends Blues through to the Quarterfinals

Tammy Abraham-Chelsea

Chelsea picked up a 1-0 win over Barnsley in the fifth round of the FA Cup to book their place in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Tammy Abraham scored the only goal of the game in the second half for the Blues.

Chelsea will consider themselves lucky because VAR was not in use tonight. Abraham looked offside when he scored his goal.

The Premier League side are through to the next round but Thomas Tuchel will be disappointed with the performance of his players tonight.

Barnsley were exceptional at the back and they well earned a lot of plaudits for the way they held their own against a vastly superior side.

The only regret for Barnsley will be their finishing tonight. They worked hard and managed to create a few chances for themselves but their finishing in front of goal was mediocre and it ended up costing them.

On top of that, Kepa produced a spectacular save off Callum Brittain from point-blank range.

Chelsea will now take on Sheffield United in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and it will be interesting to see if they can go all the way in the competition this season.

The Blues failed to breakdown the Barnsley defence in the first half and the teams were more or less on level terms in terms of performance. Chelsea improved in the second half and managed to secure the winner but they will have to improve a lot in the next few rounds if they want to win the trophy this season.
