Liverpool star could miss the rest of the season with injury

Jurgen Klopp-Liverpool

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez picked up a knee injury while training with the England national squad last night and the defender fears that his season might be over.

According to reports the 23 year old centre back could miss the euros with England next summer as well.

The true extent of the injury is yet to be determined and Jurgen Klopp will be hoping some good news on that front.

The German is already missing key defenders like Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold due to injuries.

Fabinho is injured as well and the Brazilian midfielder has been playing as a centre back for Liverpool this season.

If Gomez is out for the rest of the season Liverpool will be forced to sign a defender during the January transfer window.

Joel Matip is the only fit centre back at the club right now and the Cameroon defender is quite injury prone. Although he is a quality player, He cannot be relied upon to perform every week because of his fitness concerns.

England manager Gareth Southgate has confirmed that the injury looked serious in training and Gomes was in a fair bit of pain.

However the injury was not a result of any challenge or dual. Apparently Gomez went down during a movement or pass and no other player was around him at the time.

Liverpool have been linked with the likes of Alaba and Kalidou Koulibaly in the recent months and it will be interesting to see if they choose to move for either player when the transfer window reopens in January.
