Atalanta 4-1 Roma: Atalanta produce spectacular come back, hitting four in the second half

Zapata-Ilicic-Atalanta

Dzeko’s early strike was cancelled by Atalanta, who scored four goals in the second half.

Atalanta came from behind to score four goals in the second half, thereby defeating Roma 4-1.

Edin Dzeko put the visitors ahead inside the opening minutes and the Bosnian’s strike turned out to be the only goal in the first half.

Atalanta looked on a different mission in the second half as Duvan Zapata equalised around the hour mark with a brilliant strike, assisted by Josep Ilicic.

Not long after Ilicic sent a dangerous cross into the box, which Robin Gosens didn’t fail to make use of as Atalanta produced a quick tourn around.

Roma’s defensive woes continued as Gasperini’s men scored back to back goals in no time to make it 4-1 before the final quarter.

Firstly, Luis Muriel, who had just come off the bench, pounced on a dangerous backpass from Giallorossi before Ilicic put the game to bed by scoring a wonderful goal with the help of fine footwork.

The goal marked the Slovenian’s first of the season after failing to replicate what he did last term. Furthermore, Ilicic has risen to the occasion when Papu Gomez was left out of the squad after a reported rift with manager Gian Piero Gasperini.

Similarly, Zapata, who had been goalless in the last eleven games, put an end to his scoring drought.

Roma were handed their third defeat of Serie A this season as they currently sit fourth in the table.

Following their draw against Juventus midweek Atalanta have come up with an emphatic win against the Italian capital club.
