Mourinho has a message for Tottenham fans regarding Gareth Bale

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has urged the fans to be reasonable with their expectations regarding Gareth Bale.

The Portuguese believes that Bale is not the same he was seven years ago and the fans will just have to accept that.

He also stated that the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have regressed with time and the situation is similar with the Welsh international.

Gareth Bale was the best player in the Premier League when he left Tottenham but it would be unfair to expect similar level of performances from him now.

“Seven years is a long, long, long gap,” the manager said. “So which player in the world is the same as he was seven years ago? Sometimes they’re not better or worse, they’re just different players.

“For example, you look to [Cristiano] Ronaldo and [Lionel] Messi and compare them with seven years ago. They play in different areas, different positions. They transform their qualities to try and explore their qualities in other responsibilities in the tactical system of their teams. I think it happens with the majority of the players, so for sure he is a different player.”

He was not a regular for Real Madrid last season and he might be severely lacking in confidence and match fitness. Despite all that, still managed to score the match-winning goal against Brighton last night.

There is no doubt that he’s a world-class player who could still make a huge difference to any team in world football.

It will be interesting to see if he can help Tottenham secure Champions League qualification and end their quest for silverware.

Tottenham have made a good start to the League season and they are just two points behind League leaders Liverpool.

Gareth Bale will be hoping to build on his performance from last night and help his side win more games in the coming months.
