Spurs considering a move for Leipzig star Marcel Sabitzer, who has been cited as the alternative for Dele Alli

Tottenham Hotspur have identified their next midfield target in Leipzig ace Marcel Sabitzer.

According to reports, Spurs are interested in recruiting Sabitzer as a replacement for Dele Alli, who is having a torrid time under Jose Mourinho.

Sabitzer’s stock has risen following his impressive last season with Leipzig, who reached the semi-finals of the Champions League. He also scored twice in the round of 16 fixture against Spurs.

Besides, the Austrian also chipped in with 9 goals and 7 assists in Bundesliga last season, his highest tally since joining Leipzig in 2014.

Elsewhere, Dele Alli has fallen down the pecking order of Jose Mourinho after being limited to two appearances in Premier League this season. The worrying thing is that the English man hasn’t made it to Spurs’ squad for the last four games.

Furthermore, the arrival of Sabitzer relies on player sales and Alli, without a doubt, could be topping the list.

Sabitzer has previously expressed his desire to play in the English top-flight and Spurs are the only club interested in signing him at the moment.

The 26-year-old has become a key cog in the midfield of Leipzig under Julian Nagelsmann and he is also adept at playing up in the front.

Spurs are currently second in the Premier League table and Mourinho’s chances of winning the title could be enhanced with a player like Sabitzer.

Above all, it remains to be seen where Alli would end up if Spurs are going to sell him in January. PSG have earlier shown interest over a loan move for the former MK Dons star.
