Premier League spot up for grabs on Championship final day

Premier League spot up for grabs on Championship final day

The Championship reaches its conclusion today and although Leeds have won the title, there is a lot to play for.

The automatic promotion slot is still up for grabs and the play-off places are still undecided.

West Brom, Brentford and Fulham are all separated by just two points and it will be interesting to see which of the three teams secure their place in as the Championship runners up today.

All three teams could secure automatic promotion to the Premier League with a win and a bit of luck.

As far as the playoff spots are concerned, the first two will be filled by two of West Brom, Brentford and Fulham when they fail to secure automatic promotion.

The fight for the remaining two spots will involve Nottingham Forest (5th on 70 points) and Cardiff City (6th on 70 points due to an inferior goal difference) and Swansea City (7th on 67 points with a goal difference one worse than Cardiff).

It will be interesting to see which of the teams come up to the Premier League next year. All five teams have a decent chance of doing so and the playoffs are often unpredictable.

Last year, many would have expected Derby and Leeds to come up after their exploits in the league. However, it was Villa who squeaked past them eventually.

The relegation battle is hotting up as well and all six teams placed between 19-24 could go down this season. The six sides are separated by just five points.

Meanwhile, Wigan’s potential 12-point deduction could end up relegating them as well.
