The French forward has penned a one-year deal with the Serie A newcomers.

Franck Ribery, who has been without a club after parting ways with Fiorentina, has signed for newly promoted Serie A club Salernitana.

The former Bayern Munich winger will become Salernitana’s prolific signing in the club’s history.

Ribery moved to Fiorentina in 2019 after spending around a decade with the Bavarians.

He fared decently in his two-year spell in Serie A given his declining age and La Viola’s overall quality.

However, the Serie A outfit opted against extending his deal, thus allowing him to leave for free.

There had been plenty of rumours about the 38-year-old’s next stop, with a host of Italian clubs and Bayern being linked.

However, as it turns out, Salernitana have surprisingly managed to win the transfer race for the former French international.

As far as the contract details go, Ribery has put pen to paper on a one-year deal, which could be extended to another year if the Serie A newcomers avoid relegation.

Salernitana is off to a shaky start in the Italian top-flight this season, losing two of their opening games.

However, they must be feeling that Ribery’s presence could turn their fortunes around and to a lesser extent, they would look to avoid being relegated to the second division.

Ribery has shown everyone that he has plenty of football left in him in the last two seasons in Serie A although he is no longer the player of the highest quality he once used to be.
