Gareth Southgate has a talented England squad at his disposal, and the Three Lions will be expected to perform at a high level during the European Championships.
Here at Anytime Football, we look at the potential England starting lineup for the Euros.
Goalkeeper – Sam Johnstone
The 28-year-old has been exceptional for West Brom this past season, and he should be starting for England this summer ahead of the error-prone Jordan Pickford.
Dean Henderson could have been an option to start, but he has not been a regular starter for his club, and Johnstone certainly deserves his place ahead of the Manchester United keeper.
Right-back – Kieran Trippier
The 30-year-old has been quite impressive for Atletico Madrid this past season; his attributes are well balanced defensively as well as in the attack.
Furthermore, he is a threat from free-kicks, and Trippier would be a better option compared to Walker and James.
Centre backs – John Stones and Eric Dier
Stones has been outstanding for Manchester City this past season, and Dier is likely to be an automatic pick because of his experience.
Tyrone Mings could be an option, but he lacks experience at the international level and throwing him at the deep end might not be ideal.
Left-back – Luke Shaw
The Manchester United defender has been the best left-back in the country over the past year, and he deserves to start ahead of Ben Chilwell.
Deep lying midfielders – Jordan Henderson and Declan Rice
Henderson’s leadership will be vital in the middle of the park, and he should be starting alongside the West Ham star Declan Rice.
Rice is undoubtedly the best defensive midfielder England have, and he will help shield the back four and break up the opposition play.
Left-winger – Jack Grealish
The Aston Villa star could be one of England’s critical assets this summer, and his flair and creativity could make a big difference in the final third.
Attacking midfielder – Phil Foden
Arguably the most talented English youngster in the country right now, he was excellent for Manchester City this past season, and he is likely to be a key player for Gareth Southgate.
Right-winger – Jadon Sancho
The Borussia Dortmund winger is one of the best in the world in his position, and England will need his pace, creativity and goals.
Striker – Harry Kane
The 27-year-old is one of the best players in the world and undoubtedly the best English striker.
He will be one of the first names on the team sheet, and it will be interesting to see if Kane can lead England to European glory.
Formation (4-2-3-1): Johnstone; Trippier, Stones, Dier, Shaw, Henderson, Rice, Grealish, Foden, Sancho, Kane
